our corporate worship "Corporate" comes from the Latin word "Corpus", which means "body." Our "corporate worship", therefore, is our time once a week geiven to meeting, thinking, dialoguing and praying as a body. Prayer Prayer is a humbling and powerful reminder that we are creatures who live in dependence on the almighty Creator. Although it is good and healthy to pray individually for individual prayer concerns, and we do this when when ocassion calls for it, we capitalize on our corporate gathering to pray together. We use this time to teach and remind us that we are a body and called to pray as one. Our prayer son Sunday are said together in unison, borrowing words and thoughts from our rich church history. Music Music is a useful and fundamental means of expressing emotion and generating feeling. Feelings and emotions draw us to an awareness of God's presencein a powerful way. When possible, we try and set our prayers and creeds to music in order to unify and engage our minds and hearts in a compelling way. Scripture We believe our identity and imaginations are best formed by God's story. Scripture is the most reliable and consistent tool we use, therefore, to geenrate ideas, provide the imagination, and guide our actions. Teaching/Dialogue Our teaching strives to be an ongoing conversation and not merely impartation of information. We use the time to provoke, engage, and wrestle with healthy tension. We encourage participation and dialogue believing that we learn best by engaging and listening to one another. We try to promote a healthy reflection on Scripture and God's activity in the world and culture. Communion Communion serves as a weekly sermon involving more sense than just our ears. It is the primary sermon of Christ's death for sin that is preached every week through the touch, taste, and sigh of the elements. It is a powerful way to remind us of the pinnacle and turning point of God's story. Giving Giving our finances is a powerful opportunity for us to shape our financial lives around Jesus and his church. We invite people into the regular discipline of taking that which is important to them and giving it to the body int he belief that the church is the hope of the world and the discipline of giving financially will mold and shape us into Christ's image. Koinonia Koinonia is the Biblical word for fellowship. Conversation and relationship is the heart of who we are, and our hope is that everything we do and talk about is an extension of our conversations and relationships with each other and all the people in our spheres of influence. Time is given every week to simply be with each other, eat with each other, and converse together.
